During water-damage remediation at Las Brisas in Santa Clara, our team uncovered a critical plumbing issue hidden above a bathroom soffit. Once the area was opened, we discovered the building's 2-inch galvanized hot water main had extensive corrosion and was at significant risk of bursting.


Rather than closing the walls and leaving a serious plumbing failure waiting to happen, One Time Plumbing, Inc. coordinated with the property manager to complete an emergency hot water main replacement. The deteriorated galvanized piping was removed and replaced with new 2-inch Type L copper, restoring reliable service while helping the community avoid a potentially catastrophic pipe failure.

The Challenge

What began as a water-damage remediation project quickly became an emergency plumbing repair. The exposed hot water main showed severe corrosion that threatened the reliability of the building's plumbing system and increased the risk of a major water leak affecting the occupied condominium community.


Because the work involved the building's primary hot water main, the replacement required careful coordination with property management, a scheduled building-wide water shutdown, and an installation method that prioritized both safety and efficiency while minimizing disruption for residents.

After confirming the condition of the galvanized piping, our team coordinated a building-wide water shutdown with the property manager so the replacement could be completed safely and efficiently.


The compromised 2-inch galvanized hot water main was removed and replaced with new 2-inch Type L copper piping using code-approved press-fit transition fittings. This installation method eliminated the need for open-flame soldering, making it a safer solution for an occupied condominium community.


Once installation was complete, the new system was pressure-tested to verify proper operation before water service was restored during the same visit. The project was completed efficiently, allowing residents to regain reliable hot water on schedule while significantly improving the long-term reliability of the building's plumbing infrastructure.
